How to Transition a Classic Sweater from Work to Weekend + 9 Affordable Sweaters

How to Transition a Classic Sweater from Work to Weekend + 9 Affordable Sweaters It’s a cold weather week in Los Angeles right now and I’m glad I picked up a classic turtleneck sweater to keep me warm! I’ve worn this sweater to work and like the versatility of styling it from work to weekend wear. Plus, with warmer temperatures just around the corner, I’ll add in Style Tips for Spring + 9 Affordable Sweaters I recommend at the end of this post. Shop the Post (click image): Tips for Picking Out a Versatile & Classic Sweater: I recommend a solid color for this purpose. Variations of classic neutral colors add a little more interest while still keeping it versatile. I opted for a brighter navy color for my own sweater. Keep the ruffles and too much texture to a minimum. Yes, ruffles are nice on some pieces but for a classic piece like this sweater, keep it simpler. I opted for a very subtle puff sleeve shoulder and pointelle detailing on this sweater to add just enough texture to this solid colored sweater. Fit is always important…not just for this piece but for all pieces. Make sure the shoulders fit well, the arm length is just right and the hem is comfortable and appropriate with different pairs of pants. Love it! Of course, you should absolutely LOVE the piece you pick out. Are you so excited to wear it that you cut off the tags and wear it the next day?! Classic Sweater: Work Outfit After I picked out my classic and versatile sweater in a beautiful blue hue, I decided to pair it with one of my favorite work pants – Banana Republic Sloan Pants in a different shade of blue. To break up the blue hues, I paired a neural ivory belt and ballet flats with this outfit. I think the fabric detail in these pants is just enough to avoid looking monotone with solid-colored pants and top. I finished off the outfit with my blush pink clutch that I’ll place in my work handbag or tote (favorites here or here). Outfit Details: Top: Ann Taylor XXS (exact on sale or similar) Pants: Banana Republic 00P (similar or similar, my blog post) Belt: Ann Taylor (similar or similar) Shoes: Tieks Size 6 (similar or similar + no-show ball-of-foot cushion to wear comfortably all-day long) Handbag: Tory Burch (exact or similar for less) Classic Sweater: Weekend Outfit To transition this outfit to the weekend, I switched out my work pants for white denim, my ballet flats for ankle booties and my handbag for a fun color. For warmer weather, consider block heeled sandals instead of boots/booties. I purposely made this outfit spring-friendly with the white denim and mint green accent color in my handbag. If you’re not sure about starting this springtime transition yet, consider darker hues of colored denim such as olive green or burgundy. Outfit Details: Top: Ann Taylor XXS (exact on sale or similar) Pant: Paige Denim Size 24 (similar) Shoes: Vince Camuto Franell Size 6 (similar or similar + no-show sock to wear comfortably all-day long) Handbag: Kate Spade (similar or similar for less) 9 Affordable Sweaters Row One: Great pieces for the winter to spring transition. My favorite is this lighter weight sweater in blush pink for spring! Row Two: Neutral options in blue and navy that transition well from work to weekend Row Three: Gray is one of the easiest neutrals to style and these options include cashmere and soft fabrics.
