|Runway Report: Bottega Veneta SS18|
Happy, uplifting and fun was the order of the day for Bottega Veneta this season. Tomas Maier concentrated on a youthful, free spirited feel, commenting in relation to the ‘dark times’ felt globally. And escapism it was – a little sixties inspired, with pastel tones, swathes of sequins and rivets glistening down the runway on some of fashion’s finest from Kendall to Gigi and Hailey. Layering was key to styling in the beginning – all boxy boyfriend jackets worn over casual shirts and pencil skirts with cute neckerchiefs. We also loved a blush peach mackintosh with wide lapels and the front panels soaked in sequins, belted tightly at the waist. Later, sportswear came in to play, with light-weight waterproof outerwear, toggled tightly to create voluminous shape over wide slacks for the boys and swimwear with an angular pattern for the girls. Ombré was a recurring theme, seen initially on relaxed lilac suede jackets and later on pale denim used for fringe-covered shift dresses. Likewise butter-soft leather played a crucial role, on baggy pants for guys and in an array of altogether more structured coats and skirts for womenswear.
